🚨 One chart is quietly putting pressure on every risk asset—including crypto.
The 30-year U.S. Treasury yield has climbed to 5.27%, its highest level since 2007.
When "risk-free" assets are yielding above 5%, every risk asset has to justify its place in investors' portfolios all over again.
JPMorgan has reportedly moved its Fed hike expectations forward while raising its longer-term Treasury yield forecasts. At the same time, markets are reassessing the path of interest rates after the Fed held rates steady but signaled ongoing inflation concerns.
Here's what many headlines miss:
This isn't just about the Fed.
Long-term yields are also rising because investors are demanding a higher premium for holding long-dated U.S. debt amid growing fiscal deficits and heavy government and corporate borrowing.
Meanwhile, two developments are pulling in the opposite direction:
🛢️ Lower oil prices could help ease inflation pressures.
🇯🇵 Japan's currency intervention could influence Treasury demand and add another layer of uncertainty to bond markets.
Now to crypto.
Despite bond yields above 5%, Bitcoin has remained relatively resilient. Spot Bitcoin ETFs continue to attract institutional interest, even as higher yields compete for capital.
The challenge?
BTC still needs to reclaim key resistance before the market can confidently call for a broader trend reversal.
Right now, the market is caught in a tug-of-war:
📉 Higher Treasury yields are pulling capital toward bonds and cash.
📈 Institutional demand through ETFs continues supporting Bitcoin.
As long-term yields hover near multi-year highs, they'll remain one of the most important macro indicators for both traditional markets and crypto.
Watch the macro. Follow the liquidity.
